Add a File

While creating a thread or responding to somebody else's thread, attach a file to your post. Files can be most file types, documents, images etc.

Step 1

Start a thread or reply to a thread.

Step 2

After entering the subject and the text of the reply, select the Add Attachments link.

Step 3

Select Upload and locate the file on your computer.

Step 4

Select the file and then select Open.

Step 5

Alternatively, drag and drop a file into the drag area.

Step 6

Select the Post button.

The file is attached to the post and can be downloaded by others in the course by selecting the link.

Add an Image

Add an image "inline" with your post. This image is viewed as part of the post, not an attachment to be downloaded.

Step 1

Start a thread or reply to a thread.

Step 2

Select the Insert Image icon in the button bar in the html editor (image of a camera).

Step 3

Select My Computer.

Step 4

Select the Upload button and locate the file on your computer.

Step 5

Select the file and then select Open. (Alternatively, drag and drop a file into the drop area).

Step 6

Select the Add button.

Step 7

Add Alternative Text so that people who use screen readers know what the image is.

Step 8

Select the Okay button.

Step 9

Finish the rest of your post, if necessary.

Select Post.

Embed Online Media

Embed a video from a variety of sources such as H5P, Zoom, Panopto, ePortfolio, the Brightspace Media Library, YouTube, Flickr, from a weblink or embed code, UA Libraries, or PlayPosit, into your discussion post.

Step 1

Start a thread or reply to a thread.

Step 2

Select the Insert Stuff icon in the button bar in the HTML editor.

Scroll down the list of options and select the one appropriate one for your needs.

Select Next.

Step 6

Select Insert.

Step 7

Select Post.

Note

If using an embed code, note that embed codes are not "responsive" meaning when viewed on a small screen such as a phone the video does not resize.  If you want your video to work on all devices locate the link to the video, go to Iframely (opens in new tab) and paste the link into the box, select the Embed Now button, then copy and paste the resulting code into your post using the above steps.

Add a Video Note (Video or Audio-Only)

Step 1

Start a thread or reply to a thread.

Step 2

After entering the subject and the text of the reply, select the Insert Stuff icon.

Select Add Video Note

Step 4

Allow your browser to access your microphone.

Step 4a (Optional)

If you wish to record audio-only, toggle the selection to Audio only.

Step 6

Select New Recording. If you don't see the New Recording button, it is because the window is too small. Enlarge the window by dragging the lower right corner down and to the right.

Step 7

Record your Video Note, 30 minutes maximum length. Select Stop Recording when finished.

Step 8

Select Next.

Step 9

Enter a title and description of your Video Note. 

Note 

A screen reader will read the title and description of the video note.

Step 10

Change the Audio Language to the language you spoke when you recorded your Video Note.

Select Automatically generate captions from audio.

Step 12

Select Insert. You may see a message that the file is processing; it is not necessary to wait for the audio to render. You can finish by selecting Insert.

Step 13

Select Post.

Note

If you receive a message to check back later while Voice Note loads the video, select Post, then your thread will be posted and the video will appear later. Do not refresh your browser nor close it before selecting Post or your video could be lost.

On a mobile device, select the Choose File option and then select Take Photo or Video.

Add Code Snippets

You can add snippets of code to your discussion posts.

Step 1

Select the Insert Other Options icon (looks like a plus sign).

Select Insert Code.

Select your coding language.

Select language

Enter the snippet of code

Select the checkmark to save.

Save
