Honorlock: Troubleshoot Chrome Extension

Students may face difficulties when installing or enabling the Honorlock Chrome Extension. View the different troubleshooting options below for assistance.

Reinstall The Extension

Due to pre-existing issues within Chrome the extension may not properly install or update. Therefore, it is recommended to reinstall the extension every exam.

Step 1

In your Google Chrome browser copy and paste the link chrome://extensions/ to open Chrome extensions.

Step 2

From the list of extensions, find Honorlock and select Remove.

Step 3

Return to your D2L course page and select the Honorlock link. When your proctoring session is launched, you will be prompted to download the extension.

Disable Other Extensions

The presence of other enabled Chrome extensions may interfere with Honorlock's extension. Therefore, it is advisable to disable all other Chrome extensions when utilizing Honorlock to ensure a smoother experience.

Step 1

In your Google Chrome browser copy and paste the link chrome://extensions/ to open Chrome extensions.

Step 2

Disable all other extensions by selecting the toggle in each extension.

Note

Chrome extensions related to other proctoring tools such as Proctorio, ProctorU and/or Examity will cause the most interference. These extensions must be disabled.

Clear Cache

Saved data in the extensions may interfere with Honorlock.

Step 1

Log out of your D2L.

Step 2

In your Google Chrome browser copy and paste the link chrome://settings/clearBrowserData to open browsing data.

Step 3

Select the dropdown menu for time range and set it to All Time. Then from the data only select Cached images and files and select Clear data.

Step 4

Return to your D2L course page, select the Honorlock link within the course and relaunch the proctoring session.

Create New Chrome Profile

If all the above steps did not solve the issue, a new profile can be created to allow a new instance of Google Chrome.

Step 1

Within your Google Chrome browser, select your profile icon.

Under other profiles, select Add.

You will be asked to set up your new profile, select Continue without an account.

Step 4

Enter a profile name.

Note

It is recommended to name it Honorlock as this will be the profile you will use to take your exams.

Step 5

Do not log in to your google or D2L account in this new profile yet. Instead, in your Google Chrome browser copy and paste the link honorlock.com/install to re-install the Honorlock extension.

Step 6

Close all other browser tabs or Chrome profiles.

Step 7

Return to your D2L course page, select the Honorlock link within the course and relaunch the proctoring session.
