Join a Top Hat Course

Before you can in enroll in a course, you first need to create a Top Hat account. For more on how to create your account, please see our Create a Top Hat SSO Account help page. During the account creation process you will be prompted for your course's 6-digit Top Hat join code to enroll in your professor's course. If this has not been made available to you, you can also search for your course.

Enroll from Brightspace

The best way for most students to join a Top Hat course is through the UA Tools menu in Brightspace. This method ensures that your Top Hat grades will properly sync with Brightspace.

Step 1

Navigate to your course's Brightspace homepage.

Step 2

Select the UA Tools menu from the navbar at the top of the page.

Step 3

Select the Top Hat button. If needed, you'll be prompted to create your account. For more information on this, please visit UCATT's Join a Top Hat Course help page.

Enroll from a Web Browser

You can select and enroll in a course by searching for it from your Top Hat Lobby (opens in new tab).

Step 1

Select Join Course in the upper-right section of the screen.

Step 2

Search for your course using the search bar. Courses can be found by the course's name, or instructor's name.

Step 3

Once you have identified your course, select Join Course to enroll.

Enroll from The iOS App

If you are currently enrolled in another Top Hat course, please follow the steps below from your iOS device. For more information on Top Hat's iOS app, including download instructions, please visit Top Hat's iOS App Overview help page (opens in new tab).

Step 1

Select My Courses in the upper left-hand corner.

Step 2

Select the plus button on the top right side to search.

Step 3

Select the course, then choose enroll.

Enroll from the Android App 

If you are currently enrolled in another Top Hat course, please follow the steps below from your Android device. For more information on Top Hat's Android app, including download instructions, please visit Top Hat's Android App Overview help page (opens in new tab).

Step 1

Select the X in the upper left-hand corner.

Step 2

Select the plus in the bottom right-hand corner.

Step 3

Search by the 6-digit join code. 

Step 4

Choose the course, and select enroll.

Course Passwords 

In some uncommon cases, you may be required to enter a course password to enroll in a course. You will only be required to enter a course password if your instructor has set one up. The only way to obtain a course password is directly from your professor.
